  • 25-Feb-1813 – born in Lyman, NH
  • 2-Apr-1837 – Married in Lowell, MA to Lorenzo D. Cummings (I know this is the correct marriage because Riley Hull Marden names her husband in the Annis Genealogy )

Rebecca J. Marden – Locations

  • Lyman, NH – 1813 to c1824 as a child with her parents
  • Albany, VT – c1820s as a child with her parents
  • Lowell, Middlesex Co., MA – 1837 residence at time of marriage
  • Benton, NH – 1840 Census
  • Ryegate, VT – 1850 Census
  • Bath, NH – 1860-1870 Census
  • Monroe, NH – 1880 Census
  • Danville, VT – 1890 death of Lorenzo & Rebecca

The most important items to keep in mind about Rebecca J. Marden are;

  • she had no children of her own
  • she moved around a lot
  • she is identified as “white” in all records

There is no evidence her parents ever lived in Massachusetss (but it’s always possible). Lowell was rapidly becoming an important mill town offering a work experience to young woman. I speculate she left her parents in Vermont to work in the Lowell mills. Her husband was born in Vermont, so perhaps he followed her to Lowell. Rebecca’s younger sister Hannah, also married in Lowell 3 years later.

What else should I try to learn about Rebecca?

  • Can I verify her birth date?
  • Can I learn anything about her while in Lowell?
  • What caused the family to move so much?
  • When did she adopt Ann?

Are there any descendants out there that can provide additional information or perhaps photos?
