Today’s post will outline the research that needs to be done to properly document this family. Armed with this information, perhaps descendants will become more involved and share in the adventure by working on some of these items themselves or contributing a few dollars to help me with the research.
Like the individual pages, I will continuously update this page, crossing off completed items and adding new items, so bookmark this post and visit often. I will also add a link to this page on the Kanistanaux Home Page.
I need to locate and scan, photocopy, or photograph the actual documents. I am not interested in collecting transcripts unless the originals no longer survive or access is not permitted. I am not interested in claims made in unsourced on-line family trees, message boards, Facebook, or other genealogy forums.
Please help if you can. Your time and expenses will be tax deductible if you itemize deductions at tax time.

Hello. My name is Leah Richardson Wampler. My paternal grandparents were William Richardson and Marion Effie Kanistanaux. My grandmother Marion's parents were William Harvey Kanistanaux and Plooma Abbie Pearson. William Harvey Kanistanaux parents were Laton Leslie Kanistanaux and Mary Molton :) I think these are the same Kanistanaux that you have been researching and writing about.
I recently watched Ken Burns documentary “The West” and started thinking about my Kanistanaux family. So this morning I got on my computer and googled their last name and found your blog :)
I am excited to read all of your post written about them. I know that my father will be excited to read what information you have found also. About three / five years ago he came in contact with someone in the Kanistanaux family who had a picture of Lee-o-netto as a little girl. She is dressed in full Indian attire :)
I looked over your Kanistanaux research to do list and would like you to know that I have a link to William Harvey Kanistanaux Death Certificate. He passed away on Aug 13, 1950. It is:

I hope this helps you.

Also, to my understanding I do not think there is a Divorce record for William & Maude Manhart Kanistanaux…My father has always thought his grandfather just picked up, left his family behind, moved out west and started a new life. ??? Which is really sad to think about, but I guess that must have happened a lot back then.
