1880 Census for the Horton Family

Today is the beginning of a series of census records documenting the family of Caroline Augusta Kanistanaux. I found them from 1880 through to 1930, including the New York State Census.

EXTRACTED DATA

Key Data

1880 U.S. Census, Chautauqua, Chautauqua Co., NY, pg. 14, dated 11th & 12th, June, 1880

Dwelling #148, family # 152

  1. Fred Horton, white, male, age 26, married within the past year, farmer, b. NY
  2. Carrie, white, female, age 22, wife, married within the past year, keeping house, b. NY

DISCUSSION

Now I know why Carrie was not found with Layton & Marleah in the 1880 Stockton NY Census. This census indicates she and Fred were married during the previous year. Since now I know the time period of their marriage it should be easier to locate a marriage record, but is it in Stockton or Chautauqua or perhaps someplace else?

They both claim to be born in NY and neither provide birth places for their parents. Perhaps they were not at home when the census taker visited and a neighbor provided their names but guessed at the other information.

See the Kanistanaux Home Page for more.
