Before exploring the second deed, I need to take a minute to review the history of Concord (Lisbon) NH. For some unexplained reason this town was granted twice to different groups of men in 1763 and 1764. The original grant was re-granted in 1768 and then re-granted yet again. The boundaries of each grant were not exactly the same and the proprietors varied as well. Not all land sales were made under the proper grant which caused problems concerning legal title to the lands. In 1787 New Hampshire appointed a man to help the settlement deal with it’s issues. The affect of this controversy must have been deeply concerning to the common man who paid good money to purchase his land only to discover he may not have a legal title.

The Edward Marden Project is Working!
I am so excited by the events of the past week. I have been hearing from descendants of Edward. They are contributing information and funding. This past week I received a $25.00 donation from each of 3 different descendants. As promised, all proceeds of this blog will be used to pay for retrieving documents to assist in the project.
Edward Marden Sr. – A Whitefield Connection?
It is the time of year for renewing Ne-Do-Ba’s subscriptions to various research sites. We have limited funds for subscriptions so it is important to choose the right sites in order to get our money’s worth.
I have not noticed much in the way of real changes at the World Vital Records site, so I questioned if that was still a worth while subscription to maintain. I noticed a new comer to the field that looked as if it might be an interesting replacement, GenealogyBank.com. I decided to give them a try for a year. So far I am not at all sorry for making the change.
Of course, the first thing I did with my new subscription was search for Edward Marden!

Edward Marden Sr. – A Minute Man?
While exploring the letters of Charles S. Marden I learned that Charles believed his great great grandfather, Edward Marden, had served as a Minute Man in April of 1775. Could it be true and if so could it lead to Edward’s family?

Edward Marden Sr. – Letters from Charles S. Marden
Charles S. Marden, a lawyer, wrote twice to the Pension Commissioner to inquire about his great great grandfather’s records and to learn what information they contained. I first ran into Charles in the Annis Genealogy. Perhaps now would be a good time to find out more about Charles and to analysis what he knew or didn’t know about Edward Marden Sr.

Edward Marden Sr. – other Military Records
I found the State of New Hampshire has a lot of records from the Revolutionary War period. I had no problem proving Edward Marden served for the state. Military rolls and other similar documents seldom give us much information, but they are worth looking at.
